“How Much is that Lizard in the Window?” Lighting Requirements for Reptiles in Captivity

Captive reptiles—especially turtles and lizards$mdash;need both heat lamps to regulate their body temperature and artificial ultraviolet light to synthesize vitamin D in order to survive. Gina Lowers will discuss the lighting requirements for raising various reptiles and the unregulated specialty lighting market for pets.

Gina Lowers is a 30-year veteran of the lighting industry. She is an expert in spectral analysis and color with a focus on specialty lighting applications including ultraviolet, horticulture, herpetology, aquaculture and shatter containment. Gina is currently using her manufacturing and process experience as a Six Sigma Black Belt Consultant helping Hunter Fan Company navigate the Department of Energy’s new efficiency regulations. She is an active member of the Memphis Hightailers Bicycle Club.
